Southern Tanzania

13 Days 12 Nights$16,250 - $19,500

Enjoy an itinerary that encompasses some of the country's most remote wildlife destinations and the opportunity to enjoy a quieter, more traditional safari experience in a more untamed Africa. This 11 night itinerary begins in the country's vibrant capital on the shores of the Indian Ocean. From there continue to Ruaha, Tanzania’s largest national park. This vast landscape, about the size of New Jersey, is home to ten percent of Africa’s lions and the region's highest population of elephants, in a landscape dotted with baobabs, palm trees and kopjes. Enjoy sightings of some of the most striking antelope - greater kudu with their vast spiralling horns, or perhaps roan and sable. Wild dog and leopard are also regularly spotted. The next stop is Katavi, home to large animal herds, including Cape buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, and elephant. The dry season and the resulting mudholes make for an entertaining sight, as they can be packed with hundreds of hippos. The itinerary ends in the Selous Game Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Africa’s largest game reserve - roughly three times the size of the Serengeti. Its lush landscapes are dominated by the river and a chain of lakes that make for excellent wildlife watching. As a reserve rather than a national park, it allows walking safaris, boat trips and fly-camping as well.
