Creating an unforgettable safari experience for you is our top priority, but we’re equally committed to making a positive impact.
With every trip we plan, we contribute to meaningful projects across Africa, ensuring that travel leaves a lasting difference. Our primary focus is on two charities that we have personal connections to – in Uganda and Zimbabwe, supporting initiatives that are close to our hearts.
The Projects We Support

Ride 4 A Woman
We are proud to support Ride 4A Woman, a women-led organization, like African Portfolio. This organization empowers local women by providing them with opportunities to learn a craft, contribute to their families’ financial well-being, and support the development of community infrastructure.
Founded in 2009 by Evelyne Habasa and Denis Rubalema, Ride 4a Woman empowers women in Bwindi, Uganda, where Evelyne grew up. She was inspired from an early age, by her mother’s tireless struggle and sacrifice to put her eight children through school despite severe hardships. The name reflects the early days when the organization rented bicycles to tourists, for income to help local women. In 2011, Evelyne started teaching a group of 16 women sewing and weaving. These ladies then went on to train others. Now over 100 women have been skilled, with an average of 60 working at the center daily. They create products sold to sustain the organization, while also receiving meals, salaries, and a safe, supportive space. Today Ride 4a Woman has 300 members across 11 villages, benefiting from projects that empower women and improve people’s lives in the local community. Projects include: microfinancing entrepreneurial ideas, sponsoring the education of children, providing safe water for all the community, and installing solar panels in homes without electricity.

Education Matters
One of the enduring impressions of our founder’s first visit to Zimbabwe in 1990 was the incredible artistic, musical and entrepreneurial talent on display among a people who had so little, by our measure. Since then, we have been committed to supporting childrens’ education, firmly believing that education provides opportunity and opportunity is the gateway to success. Education Matters takes this one step further by encouraging these students, who have been given a transformative education, to also give back.
The vision of Education Matters is to empower youth in Zimbabwe to lead lives of purpose and create a positive impact for themselves, their families, and communities across Africa. Their mission is to provide high-achieving, low-income students with transformational education and access to global opportunities that will promote positive change in Africa. Education Matters bridges the prevalent gap between talent and opportunity through programs that offer motivated and talented, economically disadvantaged students, who lack both financial resources and information, access to transformative education. The programs work with high school students invited to attend the USAP Community School, a residential 11th and 12th grade (A Level) school, to access global opportunities and international higher education. Through a holistic education, the students prepare to excel at the world’s top universities to build society in Zimbabwe and on the African Continent. They teach students skills to apply their education to solve challenges facing their communities, country, and Africa. The school’s foundational Honor Code is reflective of its Quaker values: Integrity, Equality, Service, Curiosity.
