How would you rate your trip overall? Excellent
Comment: I wish there was something higher than excellent.  Every place we stayed was perfect.  The parks we visited were fabulous.  The staff, including servers, guides, butlers, and house cleaners, and many others, were welcoming, friendly, and extremely nice.  The food was fabulous.
What was the most important reason for choosing AFRICAN PORTFOLIO? Expertise
Comment: We got three bids for planning our trip.  African Portfolio was in the middle of the three.  My conversations with our initial planner convinced me that African Portfolio was the best company to plan this trip for us.
How many safari companies did you consider before selecting AFRICAN PORTFOLIO? Three or Four
How would you rate AFRICAN PORTFOLIO’S representatives in Africa?
  Excellent Very Good Average Poor
Botswana
Namibia
Rwanda
South Africa
Tanzania
Kenya
Zambia
Zimbabwe
Mauritius
Morocco/Egypt
Uganda
Mozambique
Seychelles
Zanzibar
Comment: Ranger Safari in Tanzania was not perfect.  We struggled a bit to get through customs at the border between Tanzania and Kenya.  They did not have completely accurate information about our party’s travel arrangements
What additional information (if any) would you have liked to receive prior to your departure from home? It would have been helpful to understand a little more about landing in Zanzibar and whether we would or would not have to go through customs.
How would you describe your accommodation, facilities and meals? Please provide the name of the hotel, lodge or camp you are describing. Every place we stayed, Tortilis Camp in Amboseli, and Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, Elewana Migration Camp in Serengeti, and Elewana Kilindi in Zanzibar was simply fantastic.  The food was fabulous, the service amazing, the accomodations luxurious, especially at Elewana Kilindi and Ngorongoro Crater Lodge.
What and where was your favorite meal of the trip? Our favorite meal was a breakfast that we had in the bush at Elewana Tortilis Camp in Amboseli.  The food was spectacular, and the setting even better.  Plus our very favorite server Eunice came out to serve us breakfast.  It was wonderful.
How would you evaluate your safari guides and staff? Please provide the name of the person you are describing. Our guide at Tortilis camp, Boniface or Boni, was magnificent.  He knew everything about the animals we were seeing, the ecology, the culture of the Masai, the park itself, and every bird in Africa.  He was exceptionally good at spotting animals for us.  Our guide David at Elewana Serengeti Migration Camp was equally good, except I think he was telepathically in touch with the animals to know where they were.  He found every animal that we wanted to see, gave us spectacular viewing angles, and also knew an enormous amount about the animals and ecology of the park.  Our guide Hillary at Ngorongoro Crater was very good, but not at same level of performance as Boni and David.
Was there anything you would have liked more of, less of, or done differently? On Zanzibar, we did a tour of Stone Town and a tour of the Spice Plantation.  I am not sure I would recommend the tour of Stone Town, the historical features are not really all that interesting, it was broiling hot and humid, and a lot of walking.  Other than that, I would not change a thing.  (note:  African Portfolio did NOT book the  Stone Town tour, we did that at the resort on our own.
What was your most memorable moment in Africa? Very, very difficult to choose, but probably on our second game drive in Serengeti National Park finding ourselves in the midst of five lionesses and 21 cubs that were feeding on a kill, nursing from their mothers, playing with each other, or being cleaned by their mother.
If you could give future travelers one word of advice, what would it be? Book your travel through African Portfolio and ask for Victoria to do your travel planning for you.
