How would you rate your trip overall? Excellent
Comment: This trip was truly a second honeymoon for my husband and I. The locations were wonderful, the transfers were seamless, and everyone we came in contact with went out of their way to make sure we had a wonderful time.  Vanessa planned an amazing trip for us.
What was the most important reason for choosing AFRICAN PORTFOLIO? Expertise
Please Specify Fodors article
Comment: I had read a small article that mentioned African Portfolio and found out they were local to me. That was important. Although I couldnt’ find much in the way of reviews I spoke with Vanessa and felt very comfortable that she was the perfect person to plan an amazing trip.  The fact that she knew Africa so well put my mind at ease.
How many safari companies did you consider before selecting AFRICAN PORTFOLIO? Three or Four
How would you rate AFRICAN PORTFOLIO’S representatives in Africa?
  Excellent Very Good Average Poor
South Africa
Comment: All representatives were fantastic.  The transfer drivers were like having your own personal Safari guides. Edwin was our driver from the airport to Tanda Tula and the from Tanda Tula to Savannah. We spoke for over 5 hours in total and he never tired in his enthusiasm or my questions.
What additional information (if any) would you have liked to receive prior to your departure from home? We were very prepared for our trip. I liked that Vanessa went over the trip day by day before we left. I can tell you we met other travelers who were not well informed and were unprepared for some aspects of their trip. Exact change for Uni Visa and getting a Uni Visa are just two examples. Carrying only small bills.
How would you describe your accommodation, facilities and meals? Please provide the name of the hotel, lodge or camp you are describing. Residence- excellent. Hotel was impeccable. The service was superb. Food and wine great.  Very unique hotel. Loved the history of it. ( It was the old Chinese embassy.)
Victoria Falls Safari Club-excellent. Facilities were clean and very well taken care of.  Food was good. The Hide was super fun.
Tanda Tula- By far the highlight of our trip in all areas.  10 stars. Couldn’t say enough good things about it.
Savannah-excellent Everything was fantastic. We particularly liked the evening bath that was drawn for us. Food was great.
High Grove House- good. Rooms were really nice.  Grounds seemed overgrown.  Lost electricity for a couple hours both days, once while having a massage at the spa.  A bit to secluded for us. It wasn’t even half full so not many people around.  The food was great, particularly the soups.
Dock House-Great. Room was beautiful. Breakfast was great. Quiet location in the heart of the action. Had a problem with the AC on the first night. Abby couldn’t have been more accommodating in resolving the issue. Did not damper our vacation one bit.
What and where was your favorite meal of the trip? Tanda Tula   Chef Ryan was amazing and his passion for food was clearly evident. Everything he made was my favorite. His dishes were original and his presentation was unique.  The roasted Macadamia nut salad was fantastic. ( Would love the recipe}
How would you evaluate your safari guides and staff? Please provide the name of the person you are describing. Tanda Tula – The entire staff was amazing. Britt was so sweet. She had a special dinner set up for us for our anniversary. Vesi is truly a master with coffee. He would make me homemade espresso every afternoon by the pool. Chad was our guide, he was outstanding.  I have never met someone who was so knowledgeable about everything. ie the birds, fauna, animals etc. He clearly loves what he does and his photography was excellent. He provided us with many helpful tips. Luke, Eric,Happiness are all special people.  It amazed me that in 3 days I felt like part of the family and I didn’t want to leave. I cried when I left.  That has NEVER happened to me.
Savannah-The staff was fantastic. Kevin was our guide and he was also extremely knowledgable. He was friendly and funny.  He took pride in getting to know his guests.
Was there anything you would have liked more of, less of, or done differently? We probably would have left out High Grove House.  It was a bit to secluded.  We lost power a couple of times, the phone and TV didn’t work when we first arrived. That stuff was really not a big deal. I think it is just personal preference. The food was great and the staff very helpful.
What was your most memorable moment in Africa? Everyday was more memorable than the next. Devils pool, The elephants playing in the watering hole at Tanda Tula, the painted wolves killing the impala, and the leopard that had his kill in the tree stolen by a pride of lions feet from our Range Rover.
If you could give future travelers one word of advice, what would it be? Don’t try to cut corners on a once in a lifetime trip. Book with African Portfolio and let them plan a hassle free trip. Thier attention to detail was what made the trip amazing and seamless.
