Ike & Solveig Rhodes

How would you rate your trip overall? Excellent
Comment: Exceeded our expectations and spoiled us for life!

Our telephone discussion with Anouk was super helpful and put us at ease with what to expect, however, all the extra’s with each camp were a real bonus.

Our last driver was also a guide in Kreuger Park and he was awed by our experiences and the amount of wildlife we saw.  We saw, as he put it, the big 7 and we saw them all more than once.

What was the most important reason for choosing AFRICAN PORTFOLIO? Expertise
Please Specify Foder’s top 10 environmental safari outfits.
Comment: Also your itinerary was the most convenient for both couples.
How many safari companies did you consider before selecting AFRICAN PORTFOLIO? One or Two
How would you rate AFRICAN PORTFOLIO’S representatives in Africa?
  Excellent Very Good Average Poor
South Africa
Comment: Our drivers were also well informed and we had some good discussions while transferring.

Everything went flawlessly throughout the trip.

What additional information (if any) would you have liked to receive prior to your departure from home? We should have researched both the Zimbazee River Cruise and the Boma Dinner.  By the time we got to Victoria Falls we probably would have skipped both of these as we would have appreciated some “down time”
How would you describe your accommodation, facilities and meals? Please provide the name of the hotel, lodge or camp you are describing. Exactly as expected.  Both Tent Camps were as we expected and we enjoyed them both as they were very different.  The grounds at Tanda Tula were groomed while Machaba was more bush.  The staff at Machaba became family in 3 short days.
What and where was your favorite meal of the trip? Last night in Tanda Tula when we had Fillet Mignon.  Overall Ike preferred Tanda Tula’s food and Solveig preferred Machaba’s.
How would you evaluate your safari guides and staff? Please provide the name of the person you are describing. Shawn at Machaba was excellent, very knowledgeable, personable and we felt really fortunate to have him as our guide.
Tim in Cape Town had so much information, he was a walking encyclopedia and again very personable.
Siv at Tanda Tula was also great.  Along with tracker Steven we were very impressed with them.
Highly recommend all of these super guys.
Was there anything you would have liked more of, less of, or done differently? We probably should have scheduled a vacation day from our Vacation.  We expected more down time between morning and evening game drives and found that we were kept busy.
What was your most memorable moment in Africa? Multiple memories mostly from the game drives.  The thrill of the first time the lions came within touching distance from the open land rover or the elephant strolling past our tent in the afternoon, who could forget about the baboons playing on the roof of our tent or laying awake at night listening to two prides of lions challenging roars and then to find lion prints in our camp.
If you could give future travelers one word of advice, what would it be? This is a very intense trip.  Totally worth it but a free day would be nice to sleep in and spend time catching up on reading, internet, what ever they enjoy doing.
