How would you rate your trip overall? Excellent Comment: We were so happy with this trip. This was our 3rd safari, and it definitely ran the smoothest of any Africa trip. We particularly loved the lodges we stayed in and our guide at Machaba Camp. Anouk was wonderful working with us to come up with a tailor-made safari within our budget.
What was the most important reason for choosing AFRICAN PORTFOLIO? Expertise Comment: I did a search for companies that were highly rated for southern Africa safaris. This company provided the best rate for the package, and Anouk provided some great recommendations.
How many safari companies did you consider before selecting AFRICAN PORTFOLIO? Three or Four
How would you rate AFRICAN PORTFOLIO’S representatives in Africa? Botswana = Excellent , Zimbabwe = Excellent Comment: Anouk was so knowledgeable about these locations.
What additional information (if any) would you have liked to receive prior to your departure from home?
My only complaint was with the canoe trip in Zimbabwe. That was described as a “gentle” ride, but it did go through several rapids. I don’t think we’d have done it if we had known.
What additional information (if any) would you have liked to receive from our representatives in Africa while on safari? I can’t think of anything.
How would you describe your accommodation, facilities and meals? Please provide the name of the hotel, lodge or camp you are describing. This was my 3rd safari and was some of the best food and accommodations we’ve ever had. We particularly loved the meals at Machaba Camp. And the amazing location of Somalisa – it’s hard to put into words how amazing it was to experience the elephants there.
What and where was your favorite meal of the trip? My favorite meal was our first lunch at Machaba Camp, where they surprised our group outside.
How would you evaluate your safari guides and staff? Please provide the name of the person you are describing. I can’t say enough positive things about the staff and Shaun, our guide, at Machaba. They felt like family. I even cried saying goodbye to him. We also really liked the staff at Somalia, but we were disappointed by our guide, Peter. He seemed more interested in driving to remote areas of the park and talking about history than seeing animals.
Was there anything you would have like more of, less of, or done differently? I wish we hadn’t done the canoe trip in Zimbabwe. It might have been more helpful to talk through our options beforehand. But that’s a really minor criticism in an overall amazing trip!!
What was your most memorable moment in Africa? There were so many– seeing the elephants drink from the pool in Somalisa was just incredible. And the wild dog puppies — I just loved them and continue to pour over all the pictures and video.
If you could give future travelers one word of advice, what would it be? Don’t worry about the long flights — it’s worth it! I was so happy with how smoothly everything went and the service we got from Anouk and everyone at African Portfolio. We will definitely be calling you for our next safari — hopefully soon!
