How would you rate your trip overall? Excellent
What was the most important reason for choosing AFRICAN PORTFOLIO? Referral
Please Specify Herbert Bengelsdorf
How many safari companies did you consider before selecting AFRICAN PORTFOLIO? None
What additional information (if any) would you have liked to receive prior to your departure from home? None. We communicated with Anouk regularly with all our concerns and requests.
How would you describe your accommodation, facilities and meals? Please provide the name of the hotel, lodge or camp you are describing. Cape Grace: First rate in all regards. Food at Signal was very good. Service became slightly inattentive towards the end of our Christmas Eve dinner. Room was excellent. Concierge/reception was very responsive to our email requests before our arrival. Access to the complementary car service was a welcome addition.

Victoria Falls River Lodge was delightful. The food and service were excellent. The included river excursion and game drives were also excellent. Our dedicated guide at the lodge (Gugu) made every attempt to serve us well. The “tent” was as good as any resort that we have stayed in.

Makanyi: Rico and Carmen run a great facility. The staff were terrific! They went the extra yard to make our stay special from the get-go. Since we arrived there hungry after a three and a half hour transfer from the airport, the offer of snacks and drinks was greatly appreciated. I was pleasantly surprised when they brought out a cake and made up our bed with a flower petal message for my birthday.

We were especially fortunate to have the general manager, Rico, as our game drive guide, along with his sidekick, Sookie. His willingness to keep us out an extra hour, successfully searching for a leopard, on the last night of our stay was a cap to the trip.

What and where was your favorite meal of the trip? Seafood at Two Oceans at the lighthouse at Cape Point.
How would you evaluate your safari guides and staff? Please provide the name of the person you are describing. In Cape Town, Faisal was very good, and tried to accommodate all our requests. The only negative was that it appeared that some of our requests prior to taking the trip were not communicated to him, so that we lost some opportunities due to the lack of prior reservations.

At Victoria Falls, as previously noted, Gugu was extremely knowledgeable, attentive and a pleasure to travel with.

Makanyi was as described above.

Was there anything you would have liked more of, less of, or done differently? The quoted two and a half hour trip from Nespruit to Makanyi actually took three and a half hours. It might have made things better knowing this in advance. After talking to Anouk after the trip, I now realize that this is because Hoedspruit is not an international airport, which could only be done with a connection through Johannesburg, which would have likely been as long, if not longer, and more expensive.
What was your most memorable moment in Africa? How can you pick a most memorable moment? Do I mention the leopard that were sighted at night? Do I count the number of elephants that we saw? It’s not fair to pick any single animal.

A trip of a lifetime cannot be measured by any one moment!

If you could give future travelers one word of advice, what would it be? Don’t overpack! There is no difference in the daytime and nighttime dress code at the lodges.
