How would you rate your trip overall? Excellent
Everything organized and planned to perfection. All lodging, guides, etc. were exceptional. The trip exceeded all of my expectations, which were quite high. More on lodge personnel below, but Garth was an incredible guide in Cape Town. Super knowledgeable and friendly – felt we could become real friends.

What was the most important reason for choosing AFRICAN PORTFOLIO? Referral

How many safari companies did you consider before selecting AFRICAN PORTFOLIO?
One or Two

How would you rate AFRICAN PORTFOLIO’S representatives in South Africa? Excellent
Everything and everyone were superb. Perfection is unattainable, but this trip came close.

What additional information (if any) would you have liked to receive prior to your departure from home?
More weather information, especially how varied it can be,both in Cape Town and in the bush. We had cold, rainy-misty days and sunny, hot days in Cape Town (locals confirmed that is the norm). We also had both extremes in the bush. Fortunately I was pretty well-prepared for both, but my wife felt she did not always have appropriate clothing.

What additional information (if any) would you have liked to receive from our representatives in Africa while on safari?
None.

How would you describe your accommodation, facilities and meals?
Cape Grace:Exceptional in every respect.
Ngala Tented Camp: Our hands-down favorite. Nothing short of superb on all counts, except for the lighting in the tents, which really needs improvement.
Ivory Lodge – Lion Sands: super luxurious; fabulous location on Sabi river, but didn’t have the warmth/spirit/charm of Ngala, which we loved.

What and where was your favorite meal of the trip?
I can’t decide, food was uniformly excellent.

How would you evaluate your safari guides and staff?
Guides/trackers at Ngala(Lee Anne/Richard)were superb. Had a blast with them.
Staff at Ngala were great; Dennis(Manager)and M.K.(butler)were incredible.
Ivory Lodge guide/tracker (J.P./Norman)were excellent, but Lee Anne/Richard were a very tough act to follow. Our Butler at Ivory Lodge(forgot name, unfortunately) was a highlight of the trip.

Was there anything you would have like more of, less of, or done differently?
Better lighting at Ngala! Our only small complaint. Could have stayed 1 more day in Cape Town, but wanted more time in bush, and don’t regret that decision. Wanted to say at Kingston Treehouse, but were steered to Chalkley. Seeing both, wish we had stayed with Kingston(couple who stayed there same night we were at Chalkley had a better experience).

What was your most memorable moment in Africa?
Seeing a Bull Giraffe that had just been taken down by 2 lionesses, and watching nature take its course over a 2-1/2 day period. seeing 5 different leopards, including a female cub. All game watching was superb. Lodges and staff all very memorable.

If you could give future travelers one word of advice, what would it be?
Prepare. And be ready for a grueling trip from the West Coast of USA to Cape Town if that is the travel itinerary.
