How would you rate your trip overall? Excellent
Comment: From the moment we landed in Arusha to the moment we left, everything was smooth and efficient. Areere met us at the gate, got our visas and shepherded us thru customs with ease and that set the tone for the entire trip. Fantastic!
What was the most important reason for choosing AFRICAN PORTFOLIO? Referral
Comment: As a hobby, I am a dog show judge. Kim Booth has led numerous safaris with other dog show judges, some of whom have gone more than once, thru your company. It was their recommendations that led us to your company.
How many safari companies did you consider before selecting AFRICAN PORTFOLIO? Three or Four
How would you rate AFRICAN PORTFOLIO’S representatives in Africa? Tanzania – Excellent
Comment: Ria met us the first morning and gave us the overview and introduced us to Jadim Luangila, our guide. She was very pleasant, personable and informative. She met us again when we returned to the Coffee Lodge and gave us valuable tips on how to navigate the Masai Market we were about to visit. She also stepped in for us and handled a minor issue with one of the gift shop owners. Ria was terrific!
What additional information (if any) would you have liked to receive prior to your departure from home?
To bring lots of single dollars to use for tips – security guards, escorts, bathroom attendants, and people we photographed. Our friend gave us this advice and we were glad that we listened.
What additional information (if any) would you have liked to receive from our representatives in Africa while on safari?
Can’t think of anything that Anouk didn’t answer for us by phone.
How would you describe your accommodation, facilities and meals?
Coffee Lodge was lovely & picturesque.
The Manor was beyond wonderful.
Pioneer Camp was a stark contrast & our least favorite. Termites swarmed as we arrived & were all over our dining table. Huge cockroach-like bug in bathroom. The shower was either cold or burning hot.
Loved the Migration Camp.
Staff was great everywhere; very considerate.
What and where was your favorite meal of the trip?
The filet mignon at the Manor was the most delicious. And of course we loved our candlelight anniversary dinner and dining on the rocks outside our tent both at Migration Camp, a fabulous place and Brian and Lauren were gracious hosts. Brian was very patient with my iphone questions and a big help.
How would you evaluate your safari guides and staff?
Jadim Luangila was exceptional & we were so lucky to have him.. Knowledgable, smart, funny, personable and soooo accomodating! He granted our every wish. He is also a mentor to other guides. His ability and determination to find the animals was fabulous. He was also very patient as we stayed and watched a lion pride for at least 1 3/4 hours
Was there anything you would have like more of, less of, or done differently?
A better description of Pioneer Lodge. We expected it to be more like Migration Camp: raised wooden floors; great showers; doors, not screens; not quite so rustic. Didn’t seem up to par with the others. Altho Justin and Juma were very nice and helpful, the 3 nights there were not as enjoyable. Would have preferred just the other 3 lodges.
What was your most memorable moment in Africa?
Hard to name just one. The migration; our jeep being surrounded by elephants; seeing lions mating right by the road; finding and watching several prides of lions and their adorable cubs playing. Visiting a school and learning about the education system. Everyday Jadim found a new memorable moment for us.
If you could give future travelers one word of advice, what would it be?
Either go on your own or with others that have the same interests. For example, we felt very happy that we could decide to stay and watch the animals for extended periods of time without feeling pressured to go back to a lodge to rest.
