How would you rate your trip overall? Excellent: The trip of a lifetime!
What was the most important reason for choosing AFRICAN PORTFOLIO?Competitive Cost and Expertise: I felt Yvette really understood what I wanted out of this safari.
How many safari companies did you consider before selecting AFRICAN PORTFOLIO?Three or Four
How would you rate AFRICAN PORTFOLIO’S representatives in Africa? Tanzania – Excellent and Kenya – Excellent Comment: Everyone was prompt, knowledgeable, courteous & very nice!
What additional information (if any) would you have liked to receive prior to your departure from home? That our balloon safari was NOT a safari but just an hour ride which took 1 hr & 1/2 to get there not 1 hour. 3 hours round trip for a 1 hour ride for over $1ooo was not worth it. In the documents it said picked up by 4:30 & dropped off at 11 with an afternoon game drive. To me that meant this was a morning game drive which it clearly was not.
What additional information (if any) would you have liked to receive from our representatives in Africa while on safari? Assurance that when our flights were changed that the person picking us up on the other end would be automatically notified. I scrambled to e-mail Anouk which I understand now was unnecessary & an unnecessary worry.
How would you describe your accommodation, facilities and meals? Please provide the name of the hotel, lodge or camp you are describing. Arusha Coffee Lodge great, wish we had a day there, not sure it was worth just an overnight.
Manor at Ngorongoro was beautiful, food was great but the shower water pressure wasn’t so great & hard to regulate from scalding hot to cold. Migraton Camp – all of it was amazing as was Sand River. Service at all of the camps was excellent.
What and where was your favorite meal of the trip? The food at all were very good but the last 2 camps were exceptional. We loved the family style lunches at Sands River & our last night dinner there was delicious & romantic. We were the only ones there & they set us up in a special room with candles. All of the local wines were very good also.
How would you evaluate your safari guides and staff? Please provide the name of the person you are describing. Leo was a very good guide & funny. Ghandi was wonderful & soft spoken. Tobiko was so knowledgeable as were the other 2 but there was something so special about him. Maybe because we spent the most time with him & learned his history. He also really wanted to make sure we saw what we wanted to see. Also, Julius at Migration Camp was awesome also.
Was there anything you would have like more of, less of, or done differently? We were just so happy that we had our own driver from start to finish with no other guests. We planned our days the way we wanted which I think makes all the difference especially if we were running a little late or wanted to stay watching certain animals for a while.
What was your most memorable moment in Africa? Honestly it was made up of countless memorable moments, my favorites were watching the babies – baboons, elephants, lion cubs, etc… We watched two young cheetahs playing together, holding & licking each other which was so special.
If you could give future travelers one word of advice, what would it be?To really convey to the person you are working with exactly what you want to see & do & what your expectations are as far as accommodations, meals and guides and what is realistic with your budget.
