Sharon and Roger S.
How would you rate your trip overall? Excellent
Our trip met our expectations and more! Susan did a wonderful job in planning for our every need. Our experience at the lodge and on our safaris was magical.
What was the most important reason for choosing AFRICAN PORTFOLIO?
Friends had recommended African Portfolio, and after talking with Susan and another travel company, we were happy to choose African Portfolio. It was clear that we would be in good hands with Susan.
How many safari companies did you consider before selecting AFRICAN PORTFOLIO?
One or Two
How would you rate AFRICAN PORTFOLIO’S representatives in Africa?
South Africa Excellent
All guides were excellent. It was a big help to have a guide meet us at the Johannesburg Airport to help us through immigration. I did need to talk with a representative one evening and was able to easily reach her. Garth, our guide in Capetown, was wonderful!
What additional information (if any) would you have liked to receive prior to your departure from home?
Susan scheduled a meeting a few days before we left so she could answer any remaining questions we might have. We left for Africa feeling prepared and ready for our trip.
What additional information (if any) would you have liked to receive from our representatives in Africa while on safari?
The name of each guide who would be meeting us at our hotel the next day.
How would you describe your accommodation, facilities and meals?
Kirkman’s Kamp was lovely. The staff was amazingly attentive. The food was delicious. The safaris were magical. The rooms were more than adequate. Raddisson Blu in Capetown was well located and our room was quite nice. The hotel restaurant served very good food.
Oude Werf was lovely. Very large room with new bathroom and period furniture. Good food
What and where was your favorite meal of the trip?
La Petite Ferme in Franschhoek.
How would you evaluate your safari guides and staff?
Our guide, Brett, and our tracker, Robert, were wonderful. They went out of their way to find us more than 20 types of animals and a dozen types of birds. We felt very safe with them, and they were very knowledgeable.
Was there anything you would have like more of, less of, or done differently?
I might have skipped the food tour in Stellenbosch so I could have toured the town on my own and gone in and out of shops.
What was your most memorable moment in Africa?
There were many memorable moments. The view from the top of Table Mountain; watching 4 lionesses track down a herd of water buffalo and then decide whether to run after them (they didn’t). Also, being 10 feet from a leopard that was about to jump a striped mongoose. He got him in his mouth, broke his spine, and ate him in front of our eyes.
If you could give future travelers one word of advice, what would it be?
Buy exit row seats on the airplanes so you have additional leg room (assuming they cannot buy business class seats).
