How would you rate your trip overall? Excellent Comment: Super! Guides, camps, view, animals, food, communal meaks, ambiance, etc all unbelievably great. Loved the tent camps. Guides soooo knowledgeable and have “telescopic eyes” Trip was almost perfect (we have visited 82 countries and 7 continents so we have some experience)
What was the most important reason for choosing AFRICAN PORTFOLIO? Expertise Comment: We contacted 4 companies — AP, Af Adventures, A&K, and Kensington. It rapidly came down to you and Af Adven, which a friend had recommended. We chose you because of your expertise and ability to be flexible to our needs.
How many safari companies did you consider before selecting AFRICAN PORTFOLIO? Three or Four
How would you rate AFRICAN PORTFOLIO’S representatives in Africa? Tanzania: Excellent Kenya: Excellent
How would you describe your accommodation, facilities and meals? Please provide the name of the hotel, lodge or camp you are describing. All excellent. Really. Tents wonderful. Neptune luxurious. Onsea a bit lower but fine. Olakira/Rekero views unbelievable. Saw crossing from Olakira itself. In all saw SEVEN crossings! Meals were great. Considering circumstances, truly impressive. However, I think it is a bit of overhype on the web sites to promote them as culinary wonders.
What and where was your favorite meal of the trip? No favorites. All the food was excellent. Maybe Naboisho was the best. Wonderful also everywhere were the communal meals — met lots of interesting people. Will keep in contact with some. Great at Naboisho especially was that the staff ate with us. Great opportunity to talk to them, get new info, etc.
How would you evaluate your safari guides and staff? Please provide the name of the person you are describing. Guides: Super.Titus incredible. He is a genetic mutation with telescopic eyes! Guides’ knowledge of animals truly impressive. Camps and staffs: all were excellent, attentive, knowledgeable Our rankings on a “wine scale” (100 = unattainable, 70 undrinkable): Onsea 82 Neptune 93 Olakiri 97 Ser Saf Cmp 92 Rekero 97 Naboisho 96
What was your most memorable moment in Africa? Many (7) crossings! Croc-Wildebeest encounter – will send photo to Anouk. Watching lion prides at work and play, and cheetah coalitions stalking. Leopard in tree. Two rhinos, Termite mounds. Olduvai gorge. And the drive from Ngoo to Olakira: 9 hours of jarring washboards roads but wonderful !!!!! Wouldn’t do it again but so worth it. The camps!
If you could give future travelers one word of advice, what would it be? Ok, a bit more: Bring a 400 mm lens. Talk to the guides — they know soooo much. Talk to the other guests and staff at the camps. Very interesting people.
