How would you rate your trip overall? Excellent
Comment: Our trip was the most phenomenal experience of our lives. I keep telling people, if I never go on another trip, I have fulfilled my dreams. I would like to go back on Safari before I go anywhere else! From the moment we took off until the moment we returned home, everything operated like clockwork. Anouk did a spectacular job preparing our trip!!!
What was the most important reason for choosing AFRICAN PORTFOLIO? Expertise and Referral
Comment: After becoming frustrated with a different travel coordinator, a friend suggested Anouk. From the first phone call with Anouk, everything was seamless. Her patience, knowledge and diligence made everything easy.
How many safari companies did you consider before selecting AFRICAN PORTFOLIO? One or Two
How would you rate AFRICAN PORTFOLIO’S representatives in Africa? Botswana Excellent, South Africa Very Good, Zimbabwe Very Good
Comment: The Botswana experience at Chobe National Park was outstanding. We had excellent guides. We saw an abundance of animals and birds. We didn’t think it could get any better at our safari. Our guide, Mike, at Victoria Falls was very pleasant but a little difficult to understand. He was great showing us around the falls but we later realized that he never mentioned if we could have gone below. In Capetown, Annie was very knowledgeable and efficient but she constantly talked about how corrupt SA is:((
What additional information (if any) would you have liked to receive prior to your departure from home? That it would rain so much on safari!
How would you describe your accommodation, facilities and meals? Please provide the name of the hotel, lodge or camp you are describing. VicFalls Hotel was “old world” elegant. Breakfast was very good. The Cape Grace was OUTSTANDING. Everyone was so inviting and helpful. The breakfast was fantastic. Service at dinner was pretty awful. I think our server was tired. Very slow and forgot/mixed up 2 orders. Simbambili was incredible. Staff couldn’t do enough for us. Kosher BBQ impeccable.
What and where was your favorite meal of the trip? Our favorite meal was at the Simbambili Lodge. It was the night that Matthew prepared the Kosher Rack of Lamb. We loved it so much, that he sent out second plates for all of us. Absolutely delicious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How would you evaluate your safari guides and staff? Please provide the name of the person you are describing. The Simbambili staff was warm and welcoming. They were always smiling and felt like family by the end. Our ranger Jaben was a doll and extremely knowledgeable. His only fault was he liked to be the first to find something exciting, so other jeeps saw things that he did not choose to follow. Rodney was awesome and spotted great things. A real love!
Was there anything you would have like more of, less of, or done differently? More sunshine, less rain!!!!!! HAHAHAHA
What was your most memorable moment in Africa? When Rodney (during his break) spotted the vultures in the trees and discovered the lions and their buffalo kill. Also, the 3 lion brothers that had just eaten so much they laid on their backs with the largest bellies we have ever seen.
If you could give future travelers one word of advice, what would it be? Take as much time as you can to go on this trip. There is so much to see. Spend at least four days touring Capetown and at least four nights on safari. It never gets old!! Every day is more magical than the last. TAKE ME WITH YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!
