How would you rate your trip overall?
Comment: The Elewana properties were wonderful and the whole thing ran very smoothly. Certainly something worth doing and even doing again.
What was the most important reason for choosing AFRICAN PORTFOLIO?
How many safari companies did you consider before selecting AFRICAN PORTFOLIO?
One or Two
How would you rate AFRICAN PORTFOLIO’S representatives in Africa?
Tanzania – Excellent
What additional information (if any) would you have liked to receive prior to your departure from home?
One, the hotels do wash ladies underpants. Just, FYI also, all the Elewana properties provided butlers assigned to each family. Not a problem per se, but it confused the tipping situation slightly.
What additional information (if any) would you have liked to receive from our representatives in Africa while on safari?
While there? Nothing. Ranger did a great job, as did the Elewana folks.
How would you describe your accommodation, facilities and meals? Please provide the name of the hotel, lodge or camp you are describing.
Treetops, Manor and Pioneer were all first rate. Honestly, upon reflection going to Kilindi was not a big hit. Place was nice, food and service terrific, but the necessity to add this to the trip was negligible. If asked, I would recommend everything on the mainland, but be less inclined to suggest staying longer. Made for a loooong trip.
What and where was your favorite meal of the trip?
No one thing jumps out, but the Pioneer meals as a whole stood out.
How would you evaluate your safari guides and staff? Please provide the name of the person you are describing.
Ranger Safari and Ndossi were first rate. Knowledgable, cautious and willing to take a joke. Justin at Pioneer was great.
Was there anything you would have like more of, less of, or done differently?
Ok, so this “visit to a Maasai village” thing. It’s really the only thing that irked me the entire time. It was a hustle and a bit of a shakedown and we felt very uncomfortable. Either be honest upfront and tell us what to expect or skip it.
What was your most memorable moment in Africa?
Too hard to choose. Seeing and understanding wildlife in its natural state is something your can’t duplicate in a zoo or on a screen. It has to be seen to be understood.
If you could give future travelers one word of advice, what would it be?
Be prepared to sit. A lot. I hope you really like your companions.
