How would you rate your trip overall? Excellent
Comment: The itinerary exceeded our expectations. The time allocated to the various locations was spot on. Example: we thought 4 days in the Serengeti might be too much until we experienced it then understood why- we’ll go back there again! The properties and staffs were great.  Our guides, drivers, pilots et.al were outstanding. The flora and fauna was spectacular. We loved having private guides and they all added valuable information and we loved having them share their stories. We thought Ranger Safaris was superb- everything they handled they did well. The Elewana properties all delivered wonderful food, accommodations and had hardworking, professional and fun staffs. The Alpha group/Primate Safaris were a bit less polished but still very good. That said the gorilla trek was incredible and the experience mind blowing. The trek guide, porters, trackers were outstanding! The Virunga Lodge was terrific. The time spent in Kigali at the Genocide Museum was moving.
What was the most important reason for choosing AFRICAN PORTFOLIO? Referral
Please Specify Jamie Hubbard and Doug Johnson referred us to African Portfolio and Anouk
Comment: We had exactly the same itinerary.
How many safari companies did you consider before selecting AFRICAN PORTFOLIO? None
What additional information (if any) would you have liked to receive prior to your departure from home? More detailed tipping details ( variation by property and the gorilla trek). We thought the suggestion to spend time in Amsterdam on the way was great and we also changed our return flights to have time there.
How would you describe your accommodation, facilities and meals? Please provide the name of the hotel, lodge or camp you are describing. All EXCELLENT= Arusha Coffee Lodge, Treetops, the Manor, Migration Camp and Virunga Lodge!
What and where was your favorite meal of the trip? Breakfasts and Dinners superb as were the picnic lunches that were really extravagant.
How would you evaluate your safari guides and staff? Please provide the name of the person you are describing. All Great! Our Ranger guide, Hillary, was excellent. Knowledgeable, personable and a lot of fun. Our Serengeti guide, Moses, who was an Elewana employe on retainer with Ranger, was the BEST. He worked hard and worked us hard. He made sure we were both scanning – good way to keep us engaged. He could spot things like a leopard tail in a distant tree- who can do that? Provided historic context as well as incredible insights on plants birds, animals and how they all work together in the Serengeti ecosystem. I swear he knows everybody in the Serengeti. His 23 years of experience showed. We are soooooooo thankful he was our guide!! Jeremiah, Edward and Titus at the Migration camp were just outstanding- not sure we could adequately thank them. They absolutely made the Serengeti experience! The Manor was excellent. Very unlike the other properties- the managers ( Margo and ?) were excellent and our “guy” Innocent melted our hearts- will send a photo of his handy work. Dee and Steve at the Treetops were fabulous and we learned a lot from them at what was our first stop. The venue was nice. We did a morning bush walk- awesome but skipped the night drive because we were exhausted, We enjoyed the Maasai guys in their native dress and enjoyed interacting with them.
Was there anything you would have liked more of, less of, or done differently? Would skip the Treetop Walkway at Lake Manyara Park
What was your most memorable moment in Africa? Impossible to single out one- the whole experience was memorable!
If you could give future travelers one word of advice, what would it be? Follow AP itinerary and savor every moment
