How would you rate your trip overall? Excellent
Comment: It was the most fun I’ve ever had and all I can think about is when I’ll get to go back!
What was the most important reason for choosing AFRICAN PORTFOLIO? Expertise
Comment: I think I saw Africa portfolio listed by Fodor’s as a top safari planner.
How many safari companies did you consider before selecting AFRICAN PORTFOLIO? Three or Four
How would you rate AFRICAN PORTFOLIO’S representatives in Africa?
Tanzania, Kenya, Zanzibar – Excellent
What additional information (if any) would you have liked to receive prior to your departure from home?
I honestly can’t think of anything.
How would you describe your accommodation, facilities and meals?
All were very, very good. Our favorite was probably Tortilis. The accommodations were clean and comfortable and the meals were quite good. We especially enjoyed the lunch buffet because it afforded us more options.
What and where was your favorite meal of the trip?
It’s a tough call because most meals were great. We did have a very good dinner (or maybe lunch) at Sand River. It was a curry chicken dish. The desserts at Elephant Pepper were the best though! We had a great rhubarb crumble and an apple tart.
How would you evaluate your safari guides and staff?
Tortilis – Everyone here was phenomenal. Our guide, Ali, was superb. Our server, Jackson was also excellent! And the entire staff at Tortilis was the nicest and most welcoming of all the camps we visited.
Loisaba – our guide was Brown. He was an excellent guide and very knowledgeable.
Elephant Pepper – Francis was our guide and we had so much fun with him. He was incredibly knowledgeable and very funny.
Sand River – our guide was Tobiko. He was amazing and made sure to do all he could so we had the best experience and sightings. He really paid attention to what we were hoping to see and made it happen. He was great!
Matemwe – Our butler Zube was amazing and the chef (John) was excellent! They were both so nice and went above and beyond. John even packed us snacks for the road when we left because we had a long journey home.
Was there anything you would have liked more of, less of, or done differently?
Well I think I would have cut Zanzibar off the end and gone to Rwanda to do the gorilla trek. We met so many people who did that and now I am obsessed 🙂 I really enjoyed Zanzibar. I just think I enjoy the wildlife aspects more than the beach. My travel companion would likely disagree.
What was your most memorable moment in Africa?
I’m not sure if it’s a moment but we met four people at our first camp that were grouped with us for game drives. We really hit it off with them and after the first camp they went somewhere for three nights and we went someplace else for three nights but after that we were at the same two camps together again. So, Graeme at Tortilis help arrange for us to ride together again once we got to EPC and Sand River. We had a blast with them. It really made the trip special. Of course, all of the animal sightings were unreal too. We were very lucky. We saw four leopards. We saw two of those leopards kill something. We saw a wildebeest river crossing and we did night drives where we tracked lions. It was AMAZING.
