How would you rate your trip overall? Excellent
What was the most important reason for choosing AFRICAN PORTFOLIO? Referral and supporting a local company. We appreciated your expertise and that you are in Greenwich, able to meet you face to face.
How many safari companies did you consider before selecting AFRICAN PORTFOLIO? One or Two
How would you rate AFRICAN PORTFOLIO’S representatives in Africa? Excellent
What additional information (if any) would you have liked to receive prior to your departure from home?
Perhaps a more hotel-specific packing list. All the Elewana hotels had shampoo and washed underwear. It’s a small detail but anything to pack even lighter is helpful.
What additional information (if any) would you have liked to receive from our representatives in Africa while on safari?
Maybe better communication between hotels about the migration. We spent an extra night at Pioneer instead of Migration because our guide told us the migration was in central Serengeti when in fact herds were crossing the Grumeti River at migration camp that day. It was a mistake to change our itinerary even though we had a very good day.
How would you describe your accommodation, facilities and meals? Please provide the name of the hotel, lodge or camp you are describing.
1. Elewana hotels mostly as depicted in photos;
2. The amount of animals at each site was a delightful surprise;
3. The food was adequate. A Swahili choice should be on menus. We requested this at every place and they seemed eager and delighted by this;
4. It would be nice to have group meals & mingle with others. They were keen on romance for 2
What and where was your favorite meal of the trip?
The Manor had the best food both Swahili & standard. We had a “Jambo Bwana” cake at every stop & invited the wait staff to join us at Tree Tops & Manor. We most enjoyed eating, sharing, learning & laughing with the staff.
How would you evaluate your safari guides and staff? Please provide the name of the person you are describing.
Fahad Hariri: very good guide. Very eager to please. Excellent driver. Knowledgeable about animals. Thoughtful and fun.
Was there anything you would have like more of, less of, or done differently?
Northern Serengti. We preferred a relaxed safari style versus speeding from one guide spotting to the next which is more like the central Serengeti. But in order to determine this we needed to experience it all. Central Serengeti felt almost like Disney World racing to attractions. We would have liked sundowners with guests. More social time.
What was your most memorable moment in Africa?
The moments we had to ourselves in quiet: a Journey of giraffes at sunrise. A parade of elephants crossing in front of our car. A black rhino relaxing in a mud puddle 40 ft in front of us with no one else around to witness but us. Hearing the animals roar, whoop, roam, graze at night outside our room. Getting to know the staff & their lives
If you could give future travelers one word of advice, what would it be?
