Our safari was amazing! A truly memorable and fabulous vacation. We stayed at Notten’s in Sabi Sands and at Thorny Bush – while different, both were excellent experiences and we felt well treated and looked after at both. The facilities were clean and well looked after, and staff was lovely. Meals were plentiful and tasty with good options for both meat eaters and vegetarians. Geoffrey was our guide in Notten’s and he was knowledgeable and great at finding animals. We saw 4 of the Big 5 (including a leopard) on the 1st drive. Ryno was our guide at Thorny Bush. He was personable and interested in getting to know us. Spotting animals sometimes felt harder (fewer animals/drive) but we still had 4 great drives and saw all the Big 5. My favorite meal was the barbecue that Thorny Bush served in the river bed – it was such a surprise and very beautiful way to spend our last night in the bush. I also really enjoyed the communal dinners at Notten’s. I liked getting to know the other guests and hearing about their game drives, while at Thorny Bush there was less interaction generally. I was particularly impressed by the in-airport transfer help – I wish I had that every time I fly! Our most memorable moment in Africa was seeing the mating lions fight – such a cool experience. One word of advice for other travelers would be: Rent a zoom lens for your camera.
