At times at Lion Sands River Lodge, it can seem as though you have the whole of Africa to yourself. The camp is set along the Sabi River in an area well known for a rich assortment of wildlife, including lion, elephant, white rhino, leopard, cheetah, buffalo and wild dog. You will also have access to an exclusive safari area, avoiding the clusters of vehicles and simply enjoying this spellbindingly peaceful section of the Sabi Sands reserve. The morning and afternoon game drives are excellent ways to explore, but many guests choose to also savor a leisurely picnic lunch at the waterhole, or climb aboard a hot air balloon ride over the valley, with sun glinting off the meandering Sabi River below. Family owned since 1932, the refurbished look of the camp blends nicely with a traditional ideal of service: the thoroughly trained staff provides an unrivalled and indulgent experience. The decor of the camp is a beguiling blend of colonial and African design, with the 18 thatched, air-conditioned bedrooms that include en-suite bathroom, outdoor & inside shower, wooden viewing deck, mini-bar and telephone. In the main area, relax in the private lounge and bar, at one of the two swimming pools or visit the Lalamuka Health Spa. Should you wish to delve further into the wilds, a night in the secluded Chalkey Tree House, a deluxe aerie perched in a 500-year-old Leadwood tree, is an exhilarating option.
