Kichwa Tembo

Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp is situated on the border of the Masai Mara National Reserve in southwestern Kenya. Set on a private concession leased from Masai landlords, the camp lies at the base of the Oloololo escarpment and is fringed by riverine forest just below the spot where “Out of Africa’s” most famous scene was shot. The camp faces out onto the plains of the Masai Mara and lies directly in the path of what is considered to be the greatest spectacle in the animal kingdom, the annual migration of wildebeest and zebra from the Serengeti National Park of Tanzania. Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp consists of 40 Hemingway-style twin-bedded safari tents with en suite bathroom. The tents are spacious and have a shower, hand basin, w.c., dressing table and wardrobe. The camp has a swimming pool from which guests can watch game while cooling off. Pan African dishes and salads freshly picked from the lodge’s shamba (traditional vegetable garden) greet guests at every meal. Activites include morning and afternoon game drives in open 4 x 4 safari vehicles, birdwatching and daily lectures by a Masai naturalist. Optional excursions at additional cost include hot air ballooning, a Masai community visit, night drives on the lodge’s private concession and guided walking trails.
